The Math Challenge Group met on February 3, March 2, and April 10 to learn about multiplication and division of exponential expressions and estimation using scientific notation. Students are using scientific notation to solve real problems such as estimating how much each member of the US population would have to contribute in order to pay off the national debt, and estimating how large an area of the Gulf of Mexico the Deepwater Horizon oil spill would cover if all of the oil spread over the surface.
A short homework assignment has been assigned based on individual readiness and preference, and is due on April 12. It should be turned in to the classroom math teachers in the Math Challenge folder.
